Kurtis Sawyer is a freelance editorial and book illustrator, and multidisciplinary artist, who lives and works on the un-ceded and ancestral territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ Nations, otherwise known as "Vancouver, BC”. They recently received their Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2025 and have just begun their journey as an emerging artist. Kurtis was raised in a small, forested, oceanside suburb of the lower mainland, where they learned from a young age how to find creative inspiration in nature. Their current practice consists of analog mediums such as watercolour, gouache paint, pencil, and pencil crayon. In their practice, they are passionate about using their work as a space to express emotions, to foster growth and change; and to use art as a tool to create a community of like-minded neurodivergent and queer folks. They find solace in their ability to seek kinship with the natural and whimsical world around them through self-expression. Kurtis has done editorial work for magazines such as SAD Magazine, exhibited in local galleries, sold their work through vendors like INPRNT and Slice of Life, and has participated in Patio Press’s printmaking fellowship.
