Kurtis Sawyer is a freelance editorial and book illustrator based in "Vancouver, BC". They recently graduated with a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Raised in a small, forested, oceanside suburb of the lower mainland, they learned the valuable lesson of seeking creative inspiration from the natural world. Their practice mainly consists of analog mediums such as watercolour, pencil, and pencil crayon. They like to explore the vibrancy of these mediums and how they can create lasting and ephemeral stains on the page. They are passionate about growth, change, and connecting to a community of like minded neurodivergent and queer folks. Within this creative praxis they have found solace in seeking kinship with the natural and whimsical world around them; imbuing the yearning for wonder and curiousity of a woodland sprite. Kurtis has been published in local zines, exhibited in galleries, and has participated in campus fellowships.

(Acknowledging the quotations above:) Kurtis Sawyer lives and works on the unceded and ancestral territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ Nations.
