I am a real blogger now

two fairies in the woods

Fairies Against AI, my most recent piece as of late, June 2026.

Hey, it’s me again. I am actually enjoying the process of blogging, so that’s good news. I feel like a little cartoon frog using a typewriter by a serene lake full of lily pads. Picture it! Anyway, I have been trying to settle back into my routine since my two week hiatus to visit my family. I am finding the inertia of being home kind of off-putting, and I can feel myself resisting it. Whatever routine I had previously doesn’t seem to suit me currently. I need a little shift. Luckily, though, I know the feeling of being home inside myself is one that I experience the most while I am physically in my own space. I really love this apartment, for all its faults, it’s one of the only spaces in Vancouver I have felt most connected to. Here I can feel myself the frog with his portable typewriter. Here I feel at home amongst the overgrown trees and friendly neighbours who say hello unprompted. I have recently been convinced that I can make anywhere in Vancouver my home as long as I stay a little whimsical and curious. I think the key is feeling at home within yourself first, and that is a skill I am working on daily! I remind myself, it’s not the physical space, it’s what I can make it become. That being said, there is something particular about my little neighbourhood that feels… Right. But I know that right-ness is just the me that I am now.

What Am I Up To Lately?

So, good question! I actually am overwhelmed with stuff on my plate at the moment. I joined a boxing gym recently, and it feels amazing to move in a way that I enjoy again. What else? I am trying to get back into making more art pieces… Maybe I’ll try comic book making? We’ll see. I went to go see the Western Front’s archives per a recommendation, and it was really cool! The archivalist gave me a lot of resources, and now I am just invigorated with inspiration! This coming week, I am going crazy-mode style and have filled my calendar up a bit too much. I might join an art program volunteer team, which could be really fun. I am also doing more things in the community alone, which feels very empowering! However, I think I need to focus on rest since my body is kind of begging for it. The takeaway is listening to and honouring my body!

What I Have Been Reading Lately. (TW: for discussion of fatphobia in a book)

Okay, so since we last talked, I have read… three books! And currently I am reading: Between Two Fires and contrasting that with Six Weeks By The Sea. I want to discuss my current thoughts on both reads first. Okay, Between Two Fires has had honestly the best imagery in a book I have read, maybe to date? I love, love, love the surrealist horror in it! I am usually not one for horror, but by the good gods, I am obsessed! However, I am annoyed by the random addition of fatphobia sprinkled throughout… Like, I don’t see what it has to do with anything in the plot (Thomas’s misogony makes more sense than the fatphobia), like is it meant to be comedy?… If so it’s distasteful and jarring every time. That is my major criticism of the novel so far. Kinda wish I just waited to get it at the library instead of purchasing, but ce la vie. Next! Six Weeks By The Sea, first of all, this book has transported me back to the Regency era in a way that I am obsessed with. It’s maybe a dull and shallow read, but because I am a Jane Austen enthusiast, I am obsessed. I have to mention it because it needs to be mentioned… The Other Bennet Sister pales in comparison to this novel (for me!). I think it helps that the author of Six Weeks is an Austen historian, because the Other Bennet Sister feels very influenced by current culture and at times feels relatively historically inaccurate (I don’t think a lady would be wondering the streets of London alone in these times… but correct me if I'm wrong), whereas Six Weeks is very transportive and a fun glimpse into how silly and fun Jane was. Unfortunately, we all know how the story is going to end though, but regardless its a silly romp. Love, love Six Weeks and will give a full review on my fable perhaps? The books I finished were Dai Dark Vol 1, which I was not a fan of personally, The House of the Beast, which I am obsessed with (see my fable for full review), and Stone Fruit, which made me depressed for a day, haha. I love that I can’t stop reading, it's so much fun!

What I Am Making?

Honestly, not much! I think I am pretty burnt out. Somehow, that hasn’t stopped all the ideas from forming in my head. I feel inspired but simultaneously burnt out. I think I need to just take art slowly. I realized making art at a consistently fast pace is not in the cards for me. All I can do is my best, and sometimes that means not making anything for brief periods of time. It’s a good thing anyway because my laptop is out of storage space, so I can’t scan anything at the moment. I have to get a funky-looking cord for my handy-down external hard drive.

What I Am Baking And Cooking?

This section got corrupted in my pages file for some reason? Sorry I don’t remember what I wrote. I know I made pecan pie for book club, and extra shout out to Shae for our book club meal which was a delicious half green half sausage pizza.

Updates/Housekeeping

Well, I got into my first-ever juried art show! It’s a group show for neurodivergent artists, which is exciting! It’s going to be in Langley, though… Which is unfortunate, but what can you do? It’ll be from July 4th to August 20th, so if, for whatever reason, one of you happens to be in that area, you should go take a peek at it! What else… Oh! I am going to be in the new issue of SAD magazine, so you should go check it out because it’s coming out very soon. I am also considering making another sticker to sell! I will update!
